Dying Light is getting a HUGE “Retouched” graphical upgrade
Dying Light is now 10 years old, and Techland is still improving it
Ahead of the launch of Dying Light: The Beast this summer, Techland plans on giving its first Dying Light game a graphical update. On June 26th, Dying Light will be receiving its free “Retouched Update” on all platforms. This will bring graphical enhancements to the game on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The graphical changes will differ on a platform-by-platform basis, with PC receiving the largest upgrades.
While it isn’t a remake or Remaster, Dying Light’s Retouched update will significantly improve the game’s visuals. Once this update launches, it will be the perfect time to play/replay Kyle Crane’s origin story. After all, Dying Light: The Beast will see gamers once again play as Kyle Crane, the hero of Harran.
Dying Light gets “retouched” textures and materials
Techland has been working on improving the texture quality of Dying Light. This comes from increased texture detail and increased texture resolution. Additionally, Techland has improved the game’s lighting and PBR (physics based rendering) features, improving how metallic surfaces reflect light.
Techland has also increased the maximum LOD range of Dying Light’s PC version from 260% to 340%, increasing the game’s distant detail on systems with strong CPUs and GPUs.
Another change is the addition of a new 8K Ultra Shadows option and improved lighting on many surfaces. This makes previously flat details come alive, with shadows giving them added detail and depth.
Dying Light’s Retouched update will also improve the sound quality of the game. Dying Light’s entire soundtrack has been remastered, and new tracks have been added to the game to improve the game’s variety and mood. Furthermore, the audio from hit reactions during combat has been improved, making zombie takedowns more satisfying.
Soon, Dying Light will look and sound better than ever. Great news for newcomers to the series, and those who want to revisit the overrun city of Harran.
