EA is axing its Origin App – It will not be missed

EA’s Origin App will be shut down in April 2025

EA is pulling the plug on their Origin App, bringing an end to one of the most hated PC game launchers. The app will be shut down on April 17th, with EA blaming the closure on Microsoft ending support for 32-bit software.

Once Origin is closed, the client’s users will need to use the EA App to continue playing their games. This 64-bit app is available to gamers on Windows PC and macOS. Cloud saves should transfer to the new app automatically, and the EA App will require the same EA login details as before.

Microsoft is ending support for its Windows 10 operating system this year. This is the last version of Windows launched with a 32-bit version. Note that Windows 11 is a 64-bit-only OS that requires 64-bit hardware to run.

On April 17, 2025, Origin will shut down, as Microsoft has stopped supporting 32-bit software.

If you use Origin, you need to upgrade to the EA app, which requires a 64-bit version of Windows.

EA

EA typically launches all of their new PC games on Steam. This included last year’s EA Sports FC 25 and Dragon Age: The Veilguard. EA’s old and new games are available through the EA App, though EA has not pushed the app that hard. As such, we expect most PC gamers to purchase their EA games on Steam moving forward.
