EA re-releases The Sims and The Sims 2 for modern Windows PCs
The Sims and The Sims 2 are now available digitally
Good news, Sims fans. The Sims 1 and The Sims 2 are now available digitally on PC, re-released with support for modern Windows operating systems. These games are now available on PC through Steam and the EA App, complete with all their expansion packs.
As popular as The Sims 4 has been for EA, many gamers prefer the series’ older titles. Yes, part of that preference is nostalgia. Regardless, EA saw the clear demand for a re-release and catered to that need.
Unfortunately, this is just a re-release. EA hasn’t remastered The Sims and The Sims 2. This is a simple digital re-release with Windows 10/11 functionality. The Sims 1 still doesn’t work well at 1080p or other high resolutions, with UI elements being crazy small. Adding a remastered UI would have been a welcome change, as well as proper support for modern screen resolutions. Regardless, the ability to easily install The Sims on modern versions of Windows and without a disk is a win for those who want an easy life.
The Sims Legacy Collection and The Sims 2 Legacy Collection are available through the EA App and Steam. These games are available as standalone games or together through The Sims 25th Anniversary Bundle.
If you are interested in buying these games, remember that this is a mere re-release. Minimal effort has been put into these re-releases, making them hard to recommend for existing owners of these games. Even so, these new versions can be installed quickly without needing compatibility patches or mods to function correctly. There isn’t even an EA account sign-in. Nice!
