EA's Origin Overlay is ruining the performance of Mass Effect 3's Steam version
Right now, Mass Effect 3's Steam version has mixed reviews, and for a good reason. Many PC gamers are suffering from significant performance issues. These issues are due to EA's Origin In-Game overlay, but at this time Steam users cannot disable this feature due to the background nature of EA's Origin background process on their latest Steam releases.
Mass Effect 3 should run extremely well on modern PC hardware, but thanks to this well-known issue, users of modern PC hardware are unable to enjoy Mass Effect 3 with stable framerates. This will ruin the game during most scenes by causing huge framerate spikes, making the game feel jerky and unstable, especially during combat.
EA has already told some Steam users that this problem is a "Steam issue", but when the issue already existed on Origin it's hard to believe that conclusion. When the Origin overlay is the issue, how can that be Steam's fault?
EA needs to fix this Mass Effect performance issue on both Steam and Origin, as its Mass Effect fanbase shouldn't have to work around the oddities of EA's Origin client. They deserve better than this, and EA should stop avoiding this issue.
Origin users can already mitigate this issue by using the steps which we have detailed here, but Steam users have no such luxury. EA needs to fix this at the client-level, and they need to do it quickly. Mass Effect 3 has been opened to a new consumer base through Steam, and unless these performance issues are fixed, EA should expect a lot of returns from Steam users.
