Elite Dangerous’ Horizons expansion is now free to all players

Starting today, Frontier Developments has confirmed that Elite Dangerous’ Horizons expansion is now available for free to all owners of the base game. This will allow all owners of Elite Dangerous on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 to benefit from Horizons’ content, including the game’s planetary landings mechanics and surface recon vehicles. 

Elite Dangerous’ Horizons expansion also includes multi-crew operations support, ship-launched fighters and access to new locations and content. In short, Elite Dangerous’ base game now includes a lot more content. 

Existing owners of Elite Dangerous’ Horizons expansion will receive assess to an “exclusive Azure paint job” for their ships, which can be used on all 41 ships which are currently part of the game. Elite Dangerous; Horizons expansion is no longer available to purchase.  

In early 2021, Frontier Developments plans to launch Elite Dangerous’ Odyssey expansion, which will allow players to walk on planets and add more new content to the game. 

  

   Frontier Developments plc (AIM: FDEV) announced today that Elite Dangerous: Horizons, the major expansion for the long running space epic, Elite Dangerous, is now available for free for all owners of Elite Dangerous for download on PC, the PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, and the Xbox One all-in-one games and entertainment system.

All the season content included in Horizons is now part of the Elite Dangerous base game including planetary landings and surface recon vehicles, allowing players to seamlessly travel from space to the surface of accurately simulated planets and moons throughout Elite Dangerous’ full-scale Milky Way galaxy.

Horizons also features multicrew joint operations, weapon crafting, ship-launched fighters, permission to land at many surface star ports and other locations, as well as access to the coveted services of the elusive Engineers, offering countless new gameplay opportunities for all Commanders. Elite Dangerous players who previously purchased Horizons will receive an exclusive Azure paint job compatible with all 41 ships currently in game.
