Expanded modding tools are coming for Baldur’s Gate 3
Bigger and better mods are coming for Baldur’s Gate III
Larain has announced that they are building enhanced modding tools for Baldur’s Gate 3 to give the game’s fans “even more freedom.” In total, PC gamers have downloaded over 265 million mods, highlighting a clear demand for custom Baldur’s Gate content.
Mod support for Baldur’s Gate 3 arrived in 2024, with the game’s mod kit weighing in at 100GB. This toolkit has been used to create over 8.5K mods. With Larain’s expanded modding toolkit, we should expect Baldur’s Gate III’s modding scene to explode.
Since the introduction of mod support in September 2024, you’ve uploaded over 8,500 mods to mod.io and hit 265 MILLION mod downloads (of which, over 250,000 of all downloads are Withers Big Naturals by the way – we just thought you’d like to know.).
We love seeing what you create, and the recent Modathon held by The BG3 Modding Community last month was no exception.
The month-long community-run modding event saw 85 mod authors create over 160 new mods that have been downloaded over 150,000 times! Whether you’ve been hankering for an ability that lets you feed Gale his own magically enchanted underwear, or a pair of wearable whittled duck earrings, you can check out the full list of mods available in-game by clicking here or filtering the search with the Modathon filter option. A big congratulations to everyone involved, from the organisation to the achievements awarded!
You’ve raised the bar with every mod, and we want to match that energy. That’s why we’re working on expanding the official toolkit to give you even more freedom. More on that soon!
One of the things that Baldur’s Gate 3 modders have been asking for is a full level editor. Sadly, Larain has not commented on how the game’s modding tools will be expanded. If nothing else, Baldur’s Gate 3 fans can look forward to the game having more complex mods.
If a full level editor is created, Baldur’s Gate 3 would become a modding platform where gamers could create fully custom D&D campaigns within the game. While that would be awesome, it remains to be seen if a full level editor will be released.
