Expect a PC demo for Final Fantasy XVI ahead of launch

Final Fantasy XVI is in its “Final Stages of Optimisation” on PC and a “demo” version is coming

In an interview with Game Informer, Square Enix’s Naoki Yoshida has confirmed that the PC version of Final Fantasy XVI is in its “final stages of optimisation”. Yoshida has stated that the game’s release date “won’t be in the too distant future”, and that a PC demo version is in the works.

This is the first major update that we have received for Final Fantasy XVI since it was confirmed last year. Now, Square Enix are optimising the game for PC, and are getting ready to reveal the game’s PC system requirements. Yoshida expects the game’s hardware requirements to be “somewhat high”.

PC gamers can expect to try out Final Fantasy XVI ahead of launch thanks to the game’s planned PC demo. Below is what Yoshida had to say about the game’s planned demo version.

We’re looking to release a demo for the PC version as well. Again, we can’t really talk about too much in terms of details of when it’s going to come out – I think in a little bit more time we’ll be in a better place to announce things. But one thing’s for sure: It won’t be too distant in the future; it won’t be a year, it won’t be two years, it will probably be shorter than that, so stay tuned.

Given the game’s relatively late stage of development on PC, we can expect Square Enix to open pre-orders for their newest Final Fantasy game soon. Currently, the game is a PlayStation 5 exclusive. There currently appears to be no plans to release the game on Xbox Series X/S.

With the game being PlayStation 5 exclusive, PC gamers should expect this game to only run on relatively modern gaming PCs. SSD storage will likely be a must, and the game will likely require high-end GPUs to run at high resolutions/framerates. Remember, this game targets 30 FPS on PS5. Yes, the game has a “Performance Mode” on PS5, but this mode is low res and does not deliver a stable 60 FPS. Not even close!
