Fallout 3 looks awesome in Unreal Engine 5
Fallout 3’s Intro has been recreated in Unreal Engine 5, and it looks incredible
What would Fallout 3 look like if it were released in 2025? On YouTube, a creator called R.G.Surota has recreated the opening sequence of Fallout 3 using Unreal Engine 5 to find out. This isn’t a 1:1 remake of the original opening, but a reimagining of the scene using today’s gaming technology.
This scene was a personal project and isn’t part of a fan remake or mod. It’s a non-commercial project that acts as practice for its creator. Regardless, I think this project is worth looking at, as it highlights how far gaming technology has come since Fallout 3 was released.
This is not a playable project, nor is it an official collaboration with any organization or individual to create an actual remake of Fallout 3. It was developed purely as a personal hobby and practice project, completely free and non-commercial. Most of the original 3D models in the video come from the Unreal Engine Marketplace and The Capital Wasteland mod project for Fallout 4, with a small portion created by myself. I’m grateful to the creators who generously shared their models – without these existing assets, it would have been impossible for me alone to complete such complex scenes. The animation is not a 1:1 recreation of the original opening sequence. Instead, it attempts to imagine “what if Fallout 3 were released in 2024” and what kind of opening it might have. Building upon the original opening, I incorporated storyboard concepts mentioned in Fallout 3’s official art book, aiming to create something more grand and fragmented in style. This project is born from my passion for the Fallout series, and I sincerely hope you’ll enjoy this video.
While there are calls for a Fallout 3 Remake, Microsoft is unlikely to make such a game using Unreal Engine 5. After all, Microsoft owns Bethesda. That means that they can use Bethesda Game Studios’ Creation 2 engine. This engine was used to create Starfield. This engine would be a better fit for a Fallout 3 Remake.
There were rumours that Microsoft is working on a Fallout 3 Remaster. That said, these rumours have come to nothing. If the rumours are true, perhaps Microsoft will reveal something soon. If not, this means that Fallout fans will need to wait a long time for a new game.
