Fallout 76’s PC version will lack FOV options and Ultra-Wide resolutions at launch

In a recent Reddit post, Bethesda Game Studios confirmed that Fallout 76’s PC version will not offer support for FOV (Field of View) adjustments and that the game will lack native support for Ultra-Wide monitor resolutions at launch.

On the topic of FOV adjustment, Bethesda confirmed that their previous Creation Engine games, such as Skyrim and Fallout 4, lacked support for FOV changes, stating that it is “known to break a lot of animations and causes a lot of clipping to occur onscreen”. While players have a zoom out option in 3rd person mode to somewhat mitigate this, the lack of FOV options in a AAA PC game showcases the need for Bethesda to overhaul their Creation Engine or replace it entirely for future game releases.

In a recent patch, Bethesda has also capped Fallout 76’s framerate a 63, preventing PC players from manually unlocking the game’s framerate. This change mitigates a game speed bug that would allow players to increase the game’s speed on the client side, allowing players to move faster at higher framerates, giving them an advantage over others. This issue has been present in previous Creation Engine games and remains unaddressed by Bethesda at an engine level.

Originally, Bethesda has no plans to add “Push-to-Talk” support to Fallout 76, hoping that it would make the world feel “alive with real people” and “encourage player interaction”. After some backplash from gamers, Bethesda has confirmed that they plan to add the option to the game in “the near future”, which hopefully means before launch.

Fallout 76's PC version will lack FOV options and Ultra-Wide resolutions at launch

Fallout 76 is set to release on November 14th on PC, Xbox One and PS4, though given the game’s lack of Ultra-Wide monitor support at launch, users of 2!:9 or similar displays should consider waiting for the game’s post-release Ultra-Wide patch.
