[email protected] takes up the fight against Coronavirus
Your space computational power could accelerate the development of Covid-19 treatments

[email protected] is joining the fight against Coronavirus
Now, the [email protected] project has taken up the fight against Coronavirus, Covid-19, partnering with a research team at Memorial Sloan Kettering to "advance our understanding of the structures of potential drug targets for 2019-nCoV that could aid in the design of new therapies."
Anyone can install [email protected] on their devices, allowing PCs, Macs, Linux systems and Android devices (4.4 or newer) to donate their spare computational resources to generate useful data for scientists. This could, in turn, accelerate the development of "life-saving therapies" for Coronavirus and other diseases.
Update - According to moderators on the [email protected] forums, Projects for Coronavirus folding are still being prepared. At this time it is unknown if folders will be able to fold these projects directly. The ETA on Coronavirus related folding is said to be "within a week", that said, folding for causes such as Cancer, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's research are still worthy causes to dedicate your computational resources to.
Below is an excerpt from a recent blogpost on the [email protected] blog.
We need your help! [email protected] is joining researchers around the world working to better understand the 2019 Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) to accelerate the open science effort to develop new life-saving therapies.
By downloading [email protected], you can donate your unused computational resources to the [email protected] Consortium, where a research team at Memorial Sloan Kettering is working to advance our understanding of the structures of potential drug targets for 2019-nCoV that could aid in the design of new therapies.
The data you help us generate will be quickly and openly disseminated as part of an open science collaboration of multiple laboratories around the world, giving researchers new tools that may unlock new opportunities for developing lifesaving drugs.
For almost ten years, OC3D has hosted the Redline @ OC3D folding team (team number 98860). Those who are interested in folding should head over to our [email protected] subforum if you want to join the team or discuss folding with our active team members.
Special thanks to riotcity76 for bringing this to our attention.
You can join the discussion on [email protected] joining the fight against Coronavirus on the OC3D Forums.

This is awesome. I'd like to contribute to this if I can. Surprising they already have access to this kind of data that needs computing tbh

This seems to be why work on this has been able to start so quickly.Quote

The points don't mean anything, but it adds to the competition aspect and lets you know if things are working properly.
Most of us just fold on GPUs now. As a comparison I get 1.5 to 2 million points per day (PPD) on my 2080 Super. On my 3900X I get 200k to 300k PPD.
You can get started here:
https://foldingathome.org/start-folding/
If you want to keep track of your points it's a good idea to get a passkey. That way the points are unique to you and you get bonus points.
You can request a passkey here:
https://apps.foldingathome.org/getpasskey
After you install, input your username, passkey, and team (98860 for OC3D). Whether you fold for us or not we're here to help if you have any questions or get any issues trying to fold.Quote
Good to hear! You can fold anonymously or fold with a unique name and team number.
