Former Crytek Sofia heads break away to form Black Sea Games

The former heads of Crytek Sofia have now formed Black Sea Games, a new independent studio which can be seen as a revival of the original studio before Crytek’s acquisition.

The original Black Sea Studios was founded in 2001 and created the 2004 RTS Knights of Honor and the 2008 tactical RPG, WorldShift. Crytek acquired this studio in late 2008, renaming the developer Crytek Black Sea, only to abandon the studio just over a week ago alongside five other studios.

Now Black Sea Games has been created by the founder of Black Sea Studios, Vesselin Handjiev, who is taking the position of managing director. Right now it is unknown what the new developers’ plans are, but they want to return to “old core-gaming”.

Black Sea Games is a new game company, but we have been around for awhile. Recently we realized we missed the ‘old times’, the good old core-gaming, the sleepless nights spent solving that quest or defeating the next enemy on the map, while at the same time working hard during the small hours to quickly add another great feature to our own game.

Well, this is how Black Sea Games was born… again! Look around, subscribe to our newsletter and follow us on the Web. Thank you!

Crytek Black Sea no longer exists, though now the developer has seemingly been reborn as Black Sea Games, though at this time it is unknown how many employees from Crytek Black Sea have secured jobs at the new studio.

Black Sea Games has not announced any games, though the studio apparently has several ongoing projects.
