Futuremark has released their 3DMARK Time Spy Extreme 4K benchmark

As the performance of PC hardware marches forward so too must dedicated benchmarking tools, offering increasingly stressful workloads to ensure that modern hardware is fully utilised and that their benefits over existing hardware can be showcased.

Futuremark has now released their new 3DMARK Time Spy Extreme benchmark, which comes as a free upgrade to everyone that already owns 3DMARK Time Spy, adding a new benchmark with 4K visuals, higher VRAM requirements and a more demanding CPU benchmark that can use more than 8 CPU cores.

These upgrades will help push the hardware forward, showcasing the benefits of high-core-count CPUs and the benefits of large amounts of VRAM. Given the size of textures in modern games, it has become difficult to recommend a GPU with less than 4GB of VRAM, making the move to higher resolution textures and a 4GB VRAM recommendation a logical move for Futuremark.

The CPU test alone in this benchmark will be around three times more demanding than Futuremark's standard Time Spy test, which should be extremely demanding for even today's highest performing CPUs.

Futuremark's 3DMARK Time Spy 4K DirectX 12 benchmark will be released later this month

The latest version of 3DMARK can be downloaded from Futuremark's website or on Steam, though the free version will lack Time Spy Extreme.
