Gabe Newell is now one of the US' 100 richest people

It is well known that Valve is a wealthy organisation, selling game licenses to over 125 million Steam users across the world while themselves working with what can be considered a small team.

It is the success of Valve that has given Gabe Newell his enormous wealth, which now places him as number 97 on the Forbes 400, a list that contains the top 400 wealthiest people in America. This makes Gabe Newell one of the richest people in the world, with a fortune that is estimated to be $5.5 billion.

To put this into perspective, US President Donald Trump has an Estimated Net worth of just $3.1 billion, making Gabe Newell over 75% wealthier. This is driven into even sharper focus given the "Self-made" status of his fortune.

Today Gabe Newell is considered as a gaming legend, even outside of the PC gaming space, acting as one of the most recognisable faces amongst the PC gaming elite, though a lot of this is because of memes.

2017 is another record year for America's wealthiest, with the entry requirements for the Forbes 400 raising from $1.7 billion to $2 billion this year, an increase of over 17.5%.

With Steam continuing to grow in popularity and Valve's commitments to the developments of technologies like VR, it is likely that Gabe's net worth will continue to increase moving forward, perhaps propelling him further up the Forbes 400 in coming years.

I love and hate this man so much! With how Steam started out it is absolutely amazing how good it is today. They used HL2 to push Steam (Steam was required to play the game) and I've had this feeling that they will (eventually) use HL3 to push VR (as in it will be VR only).Quote
