Google’s President of Android confirms his plan to eat ChromeOS
Google’s Sameer Samat, in an interview with Tech Radar, has confirmed that Android and ChromeOS are getting merged into a “single platform”. This move will tighten the integration of Google’s platforms, making them more Apple-esque.
After grilling Tech Radar’s Lance Ulanoff about why they used a MacBook Pro, an iPhone, and an Apple Watch, Samat revealed the following.
I asked because we’re going to be combining ChromeOS and Android into a single platform, and I am very interested in how people are using their laptops these days and what they’re getting done,

Merging Google’s two OS’ will enable a better cross-device experience for users. Application cross-compatibility will also be a valuable feature for both users and developers. Instead of supporting two platforms, developers can support one. That said, Laptops, tablets, and phones still require different user interfaces.
Google has not unveiled its plans for Android and ChromeOS, or when both OS’ will merge. Over time, I expect to see ChromeOS become a lot more like Android, and eventually be absorbed by it.
