Gray Zone Warfare’s Unreal Engine 5.5 update delivers HUGE FPS gains

Gray Zone Warfare’s 0.3.5.0 update delivers huge performance gains to PC gamers

MADFINGER Games has released update 0.3.5.0 of their tactical FPS, Gray Zone Warfare, and it moves the game to Unreal Engine 5.5. Thanks to this update, the PC performance of Grey Zone Warfare has been greatly increased. Furthermore, the game’s system memory and video memory requirements have been reduced.

On a “mid-range PC”, MADFINGER has shown Gray Zone Warfare’s framerates increasing from 35-45 FPS to 50-65 FPS. Framerate improvements will vary significantly based on your hardware configuration, as the game’s CPU-based performance enhancements have the most significant impact on lower-end gaming systems. Shader pre-caching has also been improved to reduce instances of shader compilation stutters.

Memory-wise, VRAM usage has decreased by 400MB on all systems, and RAM usage has dropped by 2GB. MADFINGER Games has also added support for AMD’s FSR 4 technology and has added an internal benchmarking tool to help suggest game settings for players.

Performance improvements

  • Updated to Unreal Engine 5.5, allowing us to parallelize rendering, significantly increasing performance on mid- and lower-end CPUs

    • Reduced VRAM usage by about 400MB on all systems

    • Reduced RAM usage by about 2GB on all systems

  • Updated to AMD FSR 4

  • Various performance, RAM, and VRAM optimizations

  • Added an internal benchmark tool to suggest optimal settings based on the player’s hardware

  • Focus on reducing hitching during gameplay

  • Numerous crashes fixed

Gray Zone Warfare 0.3.5.0 update isn’t just about Unreal Engine 5.5. While the performance gains it delivers are significant, it isn’t the only thing that has changed. AI aiming and difficulty have been reworked. Additionally, audio and animations have been improved. Finally, weapon recoil has been overhauled to more accurately simulate the behaviour of real firearms.
