Modders are already achieving incredible results with Nvidia’s Open-Source RTX Remix runtime

Earlier this week, Nvidia open-sourced their RTX Remix Runtime over on GutHub, and modders are already using it to achieve incredible results in some classic games.

Igor Zdrowowicz has already achieved incredible results in Half-Life 2, having taken many screenshots and some video of the classic FPS with Nvidia’s RTX path tracer.

The video below showcased Half-Life 2 with a work in progress version of Zdrowowicz’s path tracing mod, which included new textures for the Ravenholm section of the game. While the mod still needs some polish, with fire and water textures currently failing to render, it showcases the huge potential of Nvidia’s RTX Remix Runtime.

Nvidia’s RTX Remix Runtime can allow modders to remaster classic DirectX 8 and DirectX 9 games with path tracing. Alongside enhanced game textures and new user-created assets, Nvidia’s RTX Remix Runtime allows modders to bring next-generation visuals to classic PC games, with Nvidia’s Portal With RTX mod being an example of what is possible.

Today, we have a glimpse of what RTX Remix can do to Half-Life 2, and soon we will likely see what RTX Remix can do when applied to more classic DirectX 8 and DirectX 9 PC games. That makes me wonder, doesn’t Crysis have a DirectX 9 mode? What would Crysis look like with RTX Remix?
