Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice receives ray tracing upgrade for Xbox Series X/S

While gamers on PC and Xbox Series X/S wait for Hellblade II: Senua’s Saga, Ninja Theory has taken some time to upgrade the original Hellblade to take advantage of Microsoft’s latest consoles.

Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice was released in 2017 as a PlayStation 4 console exclusive, arriving on PC on launch day and later on Xbox One and Switch. Since the game’s launch, Microsoft has acquired Ninja Theory and has revealed Hallblade 2 as one of their first major Xbox Series X/S console exclusives. Hellblade 2 will be developed using Unreal Engine 5 and was revealed at E3 2019.

The Xbox Series X/S version of Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice has launched with enhanced visuals, DirectX ray tracing, a resolution mode, and more. At this time, Microsoft has not revealed exact information about the game’s improvements, like how the game uses ray tracing and how well the game runs on the system.

At this time, Microsoft/Ninja Theory has revealed no plans to upgrade the PC version of Hellblade or release a PS5 optimised version of the game. While a PS5 upgrade patch shouldn’t be expected now that Microsoft owns Ninja Theory, it is aggravating that PC gamers are left without the DirectX Ray Tracing upgrades of Xbox Series X/S, denying PC gamers access to Hellblade’s enriched visuals.

According to Microsoft’s trailer for the Xbox Series X/S version of Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, the game’s next-generation version should be available for download now.
