Highguard is getting shut down
Highguard to shut down five weeks after launch
It’s official, Wildlight Entertainment has confirmed that Highguard is getting shut down. The game will go offline on March 12th, a mere five weeks after the game’s release. The game failed “to build a sustainable playerbase,” and will not be supported long-term.
In a statement on social media, Highguard’s developers confirmed that the game would receive “one final game update” before its closure. It is currently unknown if purchasers of the game will receive refunds.
While Highguard will undoubtedly be remembered as a failure, it is worth noting that the game has remained online five times longer than Sony’s Concord. Over 2 million gamers have played Highguard since launch, though they did not stick around. It is currently unknown whether players who purchased in-game items will receive a refund.
Today we’re sharing difficult news. We have made the decision to permanently shut down Highguard on March 12.
Since launch, more than 2 million players stepped into Highguard’s world. You shared feedback, created content, and many believed in what we were building. For that, we are deeply grateful.
Despite the passion and hard work of our team, we have not been able to build a sustainable player base to support the game long term. Servers will remain online until March 12th. We hope you’ll jump in with us one more time to show your support and get those final great matches in while we still can.
The team is excited to release one final game update to enjoy in the remaining life of the game. We’ll be adding a new Warden, a new weapon, account level progression, and skill trees! Full patch notes are coming, and we’re targeting tonight or tomorrow morning for patch release.
From all of us at Wildlight, thank you for playing, for supporting us, and for being part of Highguard’s story.
Highguard’s shutdown is expected. The game’s playerbase declined sharply after launch, and it was clear that the game’s developers were facing financial pressures. Recent weeks have seen layoffs, the closure of the game’s official website, and other warning signs. Even the game’s reveal at The Game Awards received a poor reception.
