Job cuts – Project Motor Racing team confirms layoffs

Straight4 cuts jobs following disappointing Project Motor Racing launch

Straight4 Studios, the developer behind Project Motor Racing, has confirmed that it has “had to reduce the size of our team.” These job cuts come less than a month after the release of Project Motor Racing, which currently has “Mostly Negative” reviews on Steam.

The developer has confirmed that patch 1.5.0.2 will be released this week, refining the game’s handling and implementing a range of other improvements. Straight4’s DLC roadmap remains unchanged and “fully on track”. The company also plans to share a “medium-term roadmap” over the coming weeks. This roadmap outlines how Straight4 will shape Project Motor Racing into the game fans want.

It is currently unknown how many jobs are being cut at Straight4. The studio states that these cuts are “not a reflection of the talent or dedication” of those affected. Regardless, announcing job cuts this close to Christmas only serves to make these cuts more devastating to those affected.

Project Motor Racing failed to meet expectations at launch. Gamers expected a polished racing game from seasoned racing game veterans. Players are reporting bugs, crashes, and other issues. The game has a “mostly negative” rating on Steam for a reason, and it is clear that a lot of work needs to be done before the game can deliver on its promises.

If Straight4 Studios continues to update and improve Project Motor Racing, opinions on the game may shift. However, it remains to be seen if the studio can deliver on its DLC roadmap and enhance the game with a reduced headcount. We hope that Straight4 can turn things around with Project Motor Racing. We want to see more good racing games.
