Judgement’s lack of a PC version could bring the series to an end

Despite the success of the Yakuza series on PC, SEGA’s Yakuza spin-off Judgement still lacks a full-on PC version. While SEGA is reportedly interested in bringing the series to PC,  Johnny’s, the talent agency behind Takuya Kimura, the actor who plays Judgement’s protagonist Takayuki Yagami, being against the prospect of a PC version of the game.

According to the Japanese publication Nikkan Taishu, Johnny’s has strict policies regarding the use of their talent and how images of their stars are distributed. These policies reportedly prevent Judgement’s release on PC, and SEGA is not happy with this situation.

SEGA has been making a huge push towards PC over the past few years, releasing Persona 4 Golden on PC and all of the main Yakuza games. SEGA wants to bring more of its console exclusives to PC, and Johnny’s preventing SEGA from doing this with Judgement. Given the current impasse between the two companies, it looks like SEGA’s planning to end the Judgement series after the release of Lost Judgement.

SEGA’s move towards cross-platform and PC development with their Japanese titles has lead to a lot of financial success for the publisher. With this in mind, SEGA sees PC as being a vital part of their future.

Judgement was originally released on PS4 and arrived later on PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Stadia. PC remains one of the only major gaming platforms that lack a version of Judgement. Lost judgement, Judgement’s sequel, is due to be released on September 24th on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

Right now, it looks like Judgement may never be released on PC; unless Johnny’s has a change of heart and comes to an agreement with SEGA.
