Kojima Productions has not been acquired by Sony - Hideo Kojima Confirms
Death Stranding is PlayStation IP, but Kojima Productions is Independant

Kojima Productions is not part of PlayStation Studios
Yesterday, rumours started that Sony had acquired Kojima Productions, adding the company to PlayStation Studios. These rumours emerged when Hideo Kojima, the creator behind Death Stranding and Metal Gear Solid, released the image below on his Twitter account.
The image below showcases PlayStation IP like Ratchet and Clank, God of War, The Last of Us, Days Gone, and Horizon Zero Dawn alongside the PlayStation Studios logo. Kojima Productions' Death Stranding is also included within this image, showcasing the game's protagonist, Sam Bridges, at the top right of the image. This image fuelled speculation that Kojima Productions, the company behind Death Stranding, has been acquired by Sony, adding the company to PlayStation Studios.
With the following statement, Kojima made things clear, stating that Kojima Productions has and will continue to be an independent company.
I'm sorry for the misunderstanding, but KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS has been and will continue to be an independent studio.
Sony owns Death Stranding, not Kojima Productions
Death Stranding may have been created by Kojima Productions, but Sony own the intellectual property. Death Stranding's Trademarks are owned by Sony Interactive Entertainment, not Kojima Productions, and Sony heavily supported the game's development. Death Stranding was created using Guerrilla Games' Decima Engine and is exclusive to PlayStation consoles.
Sony may own Kojima Productions' only game, but Kojima Productions remains an independent game studio. At this time, Hideo Kojima appears to have no plans to allow his studio to be acquired.
The head of PlayStation, Jim Ryan, has recently stated that Sony plans to acquire more game studios in the future. These plans to not appear to include Kojima Productions.
