Mafia III review copies are not being sent out before release

Mafia III review copies are not being sent out before release, which means that all game reviews will come after the game launches on October 7th.

This means that there will be no Let's Plays, Reviews or even first impressions videos on the retail version of Mafia III before release, leaving the game in a position where we cannot recommend it to anyone for Pre-order. While in the past some great games have had no Pre-release reviews on PC, like the PC version of DOOM, there have also been plenty of cases where game review copies have been delayed until after launch in order to maximise sales before negative reviews are released.

Two of the most recent offenders when it comes to the lack of Pre-release review code has been the Windows Store PC version of Quantum break and No Man's Sky, both of which are widely seen negatively by the PC community.

Good thing I didn't preorder. Shame they do this. They should be confident in there work to know people will love itQuote

This is exactly why I've stopped pre-ordering games, No review on release, No buy from me.Quote

I can't see it being a fail as the budget is quite high and they have a decent track record but yeah, I'm with you guys, not handing over a red cent until I have seen reviews.

I absolutely loved the last Mafia (M2). I loved it when it was in the 40s, not so much the 50s.

Loved it when it snowed Quote

With you on that, the snow time in that game was absolutely stunning for atmosphere and setting, everything just felt right.Quote

I'm always in two minds when devs do this. On one hand (the pessimistic one), it often suggests that they are scared that some poor optimisation will shine through and stop early sales.

On the other hand (the ultimately optimistic one), I always hope that devs do this to stop some epic story from being leaked and too many spoilers being available before release. There is nothing worse than the best aspects of the game that have been kept as a surprise are ruined by early reviews.Quote
