Mafia III will get a unlock framerate option after launch

Take-Two Interactive has confirmed that Mafia III will be locked at 30FPS on all platforms at launch, though they are working on an unlocked framerate option for PC.

At this time Take-Two has not set a date for the PC's framerate unlocking patch, so PC players shouldn't expect to play with an unlocked framerate on day-one. Hopefully, Take-Two will give us a more detailed timeframe for this post-launch update soon.

Below is Take-Two's full response;

        We know how important having options that best suit your PC’s performance capabilities are. The team has been hard at work ensuring that Mafia III’s performance is consistent across all platforms, and right now the game runs at a solid 30 frames-per-second.

We are currently working on an update for PC that will give players the option to play Mafia III at higher framerates. We’ll share more details about the update, and when you can expect it to arrive, very soon.

In the meantime, the team welcomes feedback and would like to hear from you about what performance adjustment options are important to you. We’re actively considering a number of additional post-launch improvements on PC that would give players more control over how they can tailor the game’s experience to suit their rig’s performance.

It’s been an incredible journey developing Mafia III and we couldn’t be more excited to get the game in your hands and hear what you think!

Today PC gamers expect that games will come with an unlocked framerate, especially given the popularity of 120Hz+ refresh rate monitors, FreeSync/G-Sync and the relative power of PC hardware compared to consoles.

A framerate lock on PC is an immediate negative for any PC game, with a lock at 30FPS being unacceptable for the majority of PC gamers. Let's hope that this post-launch Patch will come to Mafia III soon, as for now, we would advise those who enjoy high framerates to stay away from this game.

I'm so sick of this BS. In other words what they are saying is "We are going to convert the code straight from the consoles and then worry about the PC later".

I'm so so tired of this attitude they have toward PC gamers.Quote

But this has been the attitude of the game dev's for a while now.

What i don't understand is why don't these game dev's make the damn PC version first and then the consoles.....No they have it the other way around we make the console version first and then we will do a crappy port.Quote
