Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy’s storage requirements dropped by over 45% on PC

Eidos-Montreal and Square Enix has updated the PC system requirements of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, dropping the game’s storage requirements from 150GB to “approximately 80GB”. This decrease is a drop of over 45%.

These changes to Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy’s PC system requirements came following widespread complaints about the game’s listed storage requirements. 150GB is a lot of storage, so much so that many PC users would need to delete other games or files in order to install Guardians of the Galaxy on their systems.

Thankfully, Square Enix’s 150GB storage requirements listing was an error, which means that the game will take significantly less time to download on PC and much take less storage space. That said, post-launch patches and updates could make the game larger.

PC Developers – Stop listing inaccurate system requirements…

The controversy surrounding the storage requirements for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy came thanks to an error within the game’s system requirements. The obvious question that needs to be asked is why was this error made. Eidos Montreal may be “in the last stages of optimising the final game”, but a 45% drop in storage requirements isn’t what we would expect to see from a late-stage optimisation pass.

It isn’t uncommon for game developers to list higher than necessary PC system requirements to ensure the gamers with powerful enough systems can run their game. System requirements that are too low can result in some players having a poor experience with the game, and developers want to avoid that. Even so, how were the game’s older system requirements able to get past Eidos Montreal/Square Enix’s QA department. 150GB isn’t an overestimation; it is downright incorrect.
