MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries won’t support RTX Raytracing or DLSS at launch

MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is due to release on PC on December 10th, over 18 years after the release of MechWarrior 4: Black Knight, with Piranha Games leading the game’s development.

In 2018, during their Geforce RTX reveal, Nvidia showcased a demo of MechWarrior 5 which featured “NVIDIA RTX Ambient Occlusion shadowing, NVIDIA RTX Reflections, and NVIDIA RTX Shadows” making the game one the posterchild of Nvidia’s RTX raytracing features. On top of this, MechWarrior 5 was also listed as a DLSS title by Nvidia, making MechWarrior 5 one of Nvidia’s leading RTX titles.

Now, it has been confirmed that MechWarrior 5 will launch without support for Nvidia’s RTX features, with Pirhana Games’ Russ Bullock confirming that raytracing will be added to the game with a post-launch game patch. Below is what Russ Bullock said to WccfTech

“As to RTX, we just found out yesterday that we’re not going to have RTX at launch. There is a large committed effort to bring RTX to MechWarrior as soon as possible post-release. I am afraid that is all the details I have on the matter as of this time. Since our game release is so close to the Christmas break I would expect there to be an update very early in the new year. “

Hopefully, Pirhana Games will remain true to its word and release a raytracing patch for MechWarrior 5 shortly after the game’s launch. Right now we are still waiting for raytracing to come to titles like Wolfenstein: Youngblood and for DLSS to come to many other pre-announced titles.

MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries will release on December 10th on PC as an Epic Games Store Exclusive.
