Microsoft are expected to layoff 700 workers this week

Microsoft is expected to layoff around 700 employees this week, as part of the company’s previously announced plans to cut 2,850 roles by the end of 2017’s fiscal year. Most of these planned cuts have already been implemented, with these new cuts applying across the whole company.

These new cuts are expected to affect Microsoft’s teams worldwide, including their sales, marketing, engineering, finance and other business units.

It seems that Microsoft plans on continually implementing small rotating layoffs across the business, with plans to introduce new staff to the company to update the skills of their various units. This means that Microsoft’s headcount should not be affected, though Microsoft employees will undoubtedly be disappointed in their lack of job security.

It has been reported that Microsoft offers laid-off employees 60 days to find new position internally as well as two weeks of pay for every 6-months of employment, though this is unconfirmed by Microsoft.

Microsoft is expected to announce their new round of layoffs in their Quarterly report, which is expected to release on January 26th.
