Microsoft brings its Xbox App to ARM-based PCs for the first time
Microsoft expands its Xbox App to ARM-based Windows 11 devices
Microsoft has officially released an ARM-compatible version of its Xbox App, opening up its Xbox PC experience to ARM-based Windows 11 devices. Right now, Microsoft claims that over 85% of its Game Pass library is compatible with ARM-based Windows 11 PCs. Not bad for an opening lineup.
While only x86 Windows 11 PCs will support the entire Game Pass catalogue, unsupported games can run on ARM-based PCs through Xbox Cloud Gaming. Microsoft is also working with its partners to boost the gaming compatibility of ARM-based Windows 11 PCs.
With Microsoft’s Prism emulator, native X86/X64 apps can run on ARM-based Windows PCs. With added support for AVX and AVX2 instructions, Microsoft has greatly increased the compatibility of its game pass library with ARM-based PCs. Thanks to Epic Anti-Cheat’s ARM support, games like Gears of War: Reloaded, Fortnite, and more can run well on ARM-based PCs.
With expanded ARM CPU support, Microsoft has opened the door for Nvidia and Qualcomm. Now they can deliver strong gaming experiences on Windows. While X86 remains king when it comes to gaming compatibility, ARM is closing the gap. Soon, ARM incompatibility could be a non-issue for gamers. If that happens, gamers will be able to enjoy a much broader range of devices for gaming. That’s good news for gamers, as increased competition can only be good for the gaming hardware industry.
