Microsoft brings Steam games to its Xbox PC app with new update

PC gamers can now preview the Xbox PC app’s “aggregated gaming library”

Xbox Insiders can now preview the latest version of the Xbox PC App, giving them access to games from other PC storefronts (Steam and Battle.net) alongside games from the Xbox Store and PC Game Pass.

With this update, Microsoft is positioning its Xbox App as the unified game launcher, supporting games from various storefronts. This change is part of Microsoft’s broader Xbox PC strategy, which will eventually see 3rd party launchers come to Xbox consoles. Currently, the Xbox PC App can see games from the Battle.net and Steam launchers. However, we expect this functionality to expand to support other launchers soon.

The Xbox PC app has introduced a wave of new updates for Windows and handheld devices, including a preview of a new aggregated gaming library.

With this, players can conveniently launch games from Xbox, Game Pass, Battle.net and other leading PC storefronts from a single library within the Xbox PC app.

Another update: Players can now see a channel on the app’s Game Pass tab featuring characters from various publishers. This feature highlights the diversity of publishers and games in Game Pass, enhancing discovery and simplifying access to new titles.

Thanks to this update (which is currently in preview), games from supported storefronts will automatically appear in the Xbox PC app’s “My Library” section. These games will also appear on the app’s “Most Recent” sidebar. Note that gamers can also choose to hide the visibility of selected games.

To access the newest version of the Xbox PC App, gamers can download the Xbox Insider Hub and choose to participate in the App’s preview.
