Microsoft explains why they delayed Windows 10’s Spring Creators Update

Microsoft’s next iteration of Windows 10 was set to release on April 10th, providing users enhanced HDR options, per-app audio settings and a wide range of other enhancements.

Sadly, Microsoft discovered a bug in Windows 10 preview build 17133, the Insider build which was set to become Windows 10 1803, making the update too unreliable to distribute to end-users. Instead of releasing this build and creating a Cumulative update, Microsoft decided to create a new insider build (17134) to address the issue, which will become Windows 10 version 1803 is it proves stable.  

Below is an explanation from Microsoft’s Dona Sarkar, explaining the reasoning behind Microsoft’s delay and what has changed in Windows 10’s 17134 insiders build. It is likely that Microsoft will deliver this new build of Windows 10 to end-users within the next few weeks.
 

 we are releasing Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 17134 (RS4) to Windows Insiders in the Fast ring. This build has no new features and includes the fixes from KB4100375 as well as some fixes for general reliability of the OS. As Build 17133 progressed through the rings, we discovered some reliability issues we wanted to fix.

In certain cases, these reliability issues could have led to a higher percentage of (BSOD) on PCs for example. Instead of creating a Cumulative Update package to service these issues, we decided to create a new build with the fixes included.

This just reinforces that Windows Insiders are critical to helping us find and fix issues before releasing feature updates to all our customers so thank you!

 

 

Windows 10’s Spring Creators Update will offer PC users a range of upgrades, from improved HDR support, per-app audio settings, a better Microsoft Game bar and more. Another improvement with update 1803 is reduced system downtime when installing the update itself, making the upgrade process faster.
