Microsoft Paint is not going anywhere – Will remain free on the Windows 10 Store

Yesterday it was widely reported that Microsoft Paint was dead, having been added to a list of “depreciated features” that may be removed from future versions of Windows 10.

This has been widely misreported that this is the end of MS Paint, despite the fact that there was no official confirmation that the app would be removed from the OS or become unavailable to Windows 10 users.

Thankfully Microsoft has addressed this situation by confirming that the company plans on replacing Paint with Paint 3D, a similar app that contains many of MS Paint’s features as well as its own 3D abilities. Microsoft has also revealed that Paint will remain available in its current form on the Windows 10 Store for free, which means that Paint users will not need to transition to Paint 3D is they do not want to.

Today, we’ve seen an incredible outpouring of support and nostalgia around MS Paint. If there’s anything we learned, it’s that after 32 years, MS Paint has a lot of fans.

It’s been amazing to see so much love for our trusty old app. Amidst today’s commentary around MS Paint we wanted to take this opportunity to set the record straight, clear up some confusion and share some good news:

MS Paint is here to stay, it will just have a new home soon, in the Windows Store where it will be available for free.

At this time Microsoft has not confirmed when Paint will be removed from Windows 10 and added to the Windows 10 Store, though it is likely to come with the Fall Creators Update.
