Microsoft teases faster Windows 11 boot times at IFA 2026

Microsoft promised faster boot times and improved 8GB PC performance at IFA 2026

Microsoft is working on improvements that will deliver faster boot times and a more responsive login experience for Windows 11. That’s what Microsoft’s Mark Linton, the VP of Windows and Devices, said at IFA 2026.

An internal build of Windows 11 (which isn’t available to Windows Insiders yet) reportedly offers users significantly faster boot times. This is great news for all Windows users, as nobody wants their systems to be slow and sluggish when booted.

We’ve made significant gains on things like boot time, Windows Hello responsiveness

Microsoft appears to finally be addressing something that has long irked Windows 10 and Windows 11 users. Despite faster CPUs and the growing use of ultra-fast SSD storage in PCs, Windows boot times haven’t gotten noticeably faster. Microsoft appears to be addressing this issue, making Windows 11 feel much snappier.

Windows 11 is getting optimised for 8GB devices, and that’s great news for everyone

Microsoft has also promised Windows 11 optimisations that will lower memory usage. Windows 11 should soon run better on devices with 8GB of RAM. With memory costs rising, these optimisations are timely. While 8GB PCs will see the largest benefits, these optimisations should improve Windows 11 for everyone. After all, Windows 11’s lower memory use will save memory for all users. No matter how much memory your PC has, Microsoft’s upcoming optimisations should give users access to more of that memory.

We’re optimizing so that 8 gig of RAM runs great on machines as well

– Mark Linton, VP of Windows & Devices at Microsoft

Microsoft appears to finally be taking optimisation seriously with Windows 11. For a long time, Microsoft has masked Windows’ declining performance with hardware advancements. SSD storage, faster CPUs, and larger pools of RAM have helped prevent Windows 11 from feeling slower than prior OS’. That said, compare Windows 11 to Linux PCs and MacOS systems, and you will see that Windows 11 has become inefficient and sluggish compared with its peers. Thankfully, Microsoft has been working to improve Windows 11 over the past year, with great results. Their action may be late, but better late than never.
