Microsoft And Peter Jackson Unite In Game Studio

Microsoft’s video games are possibly about to undergo a major change,  with the inclusion of action, drama and excitement – Hollywood style. The company today announced at X06 in Barcelona that it will create Wingnut, a new game studio in cooperation with Academy award winning writer, director, and producer Peter Jackson as well as Academy Award-winning screenwriter Fran Walsh.

In a first stage, the parties will collaborate to develop two new “interactive entertainment series” for the Xbox 360 and Xbox Live, the first of which will be a sequel to Halo and the second “will be an entirely original property targeted at bringing new audiences into the captivating world of interactive entertainment.”

Jackson, Walsh and Microsoft Game Studios are also planning to establish “Wingnut” among the leading developer of video games. Jackson has stated that “My vision, together with Microsoft Game Studios, is to push the boundaries of game development and the future of interactive entertainment.”

In related news, Microsoft Game Studios has announced Halo Wars, an all-new real-time strategy game built exclusively for XBOX 360 by Ensemble Studios, the creators of the Age of Empires series. Halo Wars places the player in command of human UNSC armies as they deploy for mankind’s first deadly encounter with the enemy Covenant forces. Click here to view the trailer and additional images.
