Microsoft Announces Windows 10 Will Be Free Upgrade

Two weeks ago, Microsoft announced a livestream dedicated to its upcoming OS, Windows 10. It's live now, and Microsoft has given existing Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1 users great news: they'll get updated to Windows 10. For free. You read that right, if you run Windows 7 or 8.1, and/or have a smartphone running Windows Phone 8.1, you'll receive Windows 10 without paying a dime.

Microsoft Announced Windows 10 Will Be Free Upgrade

There is a catch, however. People who have a legitimate copy of Windows 7 or 8.1 will receive a license, as long as you claim it within a year after Windows 10's launch. Now that shouldn't be a problem right?

This is great news indeed, as Microsoft usually charge around £100 for new releases of their highly popular OS. This may be a thing of the past.

Will you be getting Windows 10 (for free)? I know I will! Let us know.

So this means every single device right? Mainly the surface products? My mom has one and i'm sure should would like it better with W10.

Also if you have an OEM key and you upgrade to W10.. is it like a brand new non oem install or??? Just curiousQuote

Microsoft only mentioned Windows (Phone) 8.1 and Windows 7. I think you can't upgrade your key to Windows 10. It has to be installed on a system I think, as it'll probably go OTA in the Windows Store, just like Windows 8.1 Quote

Isn't everyone on Windows 8 allowed to upgrade to 8.1? I'd bet that there is no upgrade from 8 -> 10, you'd have to install 8.1 first.Quote
