Modders are bringing DLSS, FSR 2.0, and XeSS to Resident Evil 2's remake

Is this the start of a new game modding trend?

Modders are bringing DLSS, FSR 2.0, and XeSS to Resident Evil 2's remake

Resident Evil 2 has become one of the first games to be modded with DLSS, FSR 2.0, and XeSS support

Two PC game modders, Praydog and PureDark, are currently working on a mod that will add support for modern upscaling technologies to Resident Evil 2. This planned mod will add support for DLSS 2.0, XeSS, and FSR 2.0 to the PC version of Resident Evil 2, something which is a huge feat given the fact that the game does not currently support any of these upscaling technologies.

Older FSR 2.0 and DLSS mods for games often rely on the implementation of another upscaling technique to hack in support for others. With Resident Evil 2, support for XeSS, FSR 2.0, and DLSS 2.0 are being modded into the game without any other upscaling technique, something that appears to be a first within the PC modding community.

With support for these new upscaling techniques, PC gamers can target higher screen resolutions with lower-end PC hardware, or target higher framerates with their hardware at the same resolutions that they used before. This mode appears to be using REFramework to function, a modding framework for RE Engine games like Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, Resident Evil 7, Resident Evil Village, Devil May Cry 5 and Monster Hunter Rise. This suggests that similar DLSS, FSR 2.0, and XeSS mods could be made for all RE Engine games in the future.

Sadly, Resident Evil 2's DLSS/FSR 2.0/XeSS mod is not currently available for download, with be modders responsible for the video above stating that the mod is not currently ready for public availability.

For hardcore modders of Resident Evil 2, the addition of DLSS, FSR 2.0, and XeSS has the potential to greatly improve the performance of the game's VR mods, making the game much more playable on VR headsets.
