Monster Hunter Wilds’ latest PC update adds DLSS 4, FSR 4, and more

Expect reduced VRAM usage with Monster Hunter Wilds’ newest PC update

Monster Hunter Wilds has just received its Ver.1.020.00.00 update, adding new monsters, equipment, and other content to the game. On PC, this update also adds new features, and should help the game run faster on systems with limited VRAM. Full patch notes for this update are available here.

For starters, the PC/Steam version of the game now features lowered overall VRAM usage. This comes from adjustments to the game’s texture streaming system. This should help prevent performance issues on PCs with limited VRAM. After all, this game can struggle to run on 8GB GPUs without lowered texture settings. The game’s estimated VRAM usage counter has also been made more accurate.

Additionally, Nvidia DLSS 4 and AMD FSR 4 have been added to the game. Upscaling and Frame Generation settings have also been separated, allowing FSR Frame Generation to be used alongside DLSS and vice versa. With the addition of DLSS 4 support, Monster Hunter Wilds now supports Nvidia’s DLSS Multi Frame Generation tech.

Currently, the PC version of Monster Hunter Wilds has an “Overwhelmingly Negative” review rating on Steam. This is primarily due to the game’s poor performance levels on PC. While today’s update should lessen the impact of the game’s VRAM-related performance issues on some GPUs, the game’s patch notes do not mention any broader performance-boosting changes.

While today’s update is welcome, it will not fundamentally change the game’s core issues on PC. For the most part, the game will run as poorly as it did before. That said, it is great to see that FSR 4 and DLSS 4 are now directly integrated into the game. Previously, these features required driver overrides to work.
