Monster Hunter Wilds’ PC System Requirements are Baffling

Frame Generation Recommended? Capcom’s Monster Hunter Wilds PC system requirements have us confused

Monster Hunter Wilds is coming to PC and consoles on February 28th, 2025, and the game’s PC system requirements have left us baffled. Not only do the game’s minimum system requirements specify upscaling, but the game’s recommended system requirements list Frame Generation as enabled. Yes, Frame Generation is required for 1080p 60 FPS gameplay using this game’s recommended hardware.

For starters, Frame Generation from 30 FPS to 60 FPS isn’t recommended by hardware manufacturers. AMD explicitly recommends running a game at 60 FPS before frame generation is enabled. That alone makes Monster Hunter Wilds’ recommendations confusing. Is Capcom suggesting that PC gamers should use Frame Generation in a sub-optimal way?

When using AMD FSR 3 and FSR 3.1 frame generation, it is highly recommended to be always running at a minimum of ~60 FPS before frame generation is applied for an optimal high-quality gaming experience, and to mitigate any latency introduced by the technology. Consequently, we suggest you adjust game graphics settings, resolution, and upscaling quality modes to achieve this, based on the capabilities of the graphics hardware being used and your overall system specs.

Monster Hunter Rise PC System Requirements

Aside from these oddities, Monster Hunter World isn’t demanding that PC gamers use ultra-high-end hardware. That said, their use of Frame Generation and Upscaling suggests that their PC hardware requirements would be much higher if they ran natively at 1080p and without Frame Generation. While it makes sense for Capcom to want this game to run on the broadest selection of PC hardware possible, their reliance on upscaling and Frame Generation makes the below system requirements feel dishonest.

Minimum (1080p 30 FPS – Upscaled from 720p at “Lowest” settings):

    • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
    • OS: Windows 10 (64-bit Required)
    • Processor: Intel Core i5-10600 or Intel Core i3-12100F or AMD Ryzen 5 3600
    • Memory: 16 GB RAM
    • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Super(VRAM 6GB) or AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT(VRAM 6GB)
    • DirectX: Version 12
    • Storage: 140GB
    • Network: Broadband Internet connection
    • Additional Notes: SSD required.

Recommended (1080p 60 FPS – Frame Generation Enabled at “Medium” settings):

    • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
    • OS: Windows 10 (64-bit Required)
    • Processor: Intel Core i5-11600K or Intel Core i5-12400 or AMD Ryzen 5 3600X or AMD Ryzen 5 5500
    • Memory: 16 GB RAM
    • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Super(VRAM 8GB) or NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060(VRAM 8GB) or AMD Radeon RX 6700XT(VRAM 12GB)
    • DirectX: Version 12
    • Storage: 140GB
    • Network: Broadband Internet connection
    • Additional Notes: SSD required.

Capcom has confirmed that Monster Hunter Wilds will support DirectStorage. The game is a DirectX 12 title and will support both AMD FSR 3 and Nvidia DLSS 3 at launch. Stroage-wise, the game has a 140GB SSD storage requirement.
