Mozilla plans to integrate “Have I Been Pwned” into their Firefox web browser

“Have I Been Pwned” (HIBP) is a lesser known service which has compiled data from a vast number of online data breaches, allowing users to type their email address into the website to see whether or not they have been affected by a data breach.

We all have email addresses attached to websites that we no longer frequent or online stores which we no longer shop at, offering many angles for your details to be stolen, especially if you are a long time internet user.

Mozilla has announced that they plan to integrate HIBP into their Firefox browser, allowing users to utilise Firefox’s monitoring tools to check your email for past involvement in data breaches and to sign up for alerts in case your account security is ever compromised. Firefox monitor is also designed to help users secure their online life, issuing recommendations to users who are affected by data breaches.

Mozilla plans to roll out their Firefox Monitor and HIBP support to 250,000 beta users next week, with plans to release this update to all users at a later date, assuming that everything goes to plan.

Those who are interested in their online security should visit Have I Been Pwned for security recommendations and to find out whether or not your email has been involved in a past data breach.
