New Mass Effect Art teases Krogan “Civil War”

Mass Effect fans have uncovered official artwork for the series’ next game

EA and BioWare didn’t reveal much during this year’s “N7 Day“, though the company did leave some breadcrumbs for fans to follow. These crumbs of information eventually led to the unveiling of new Mass Effect concept art.

BioWare has confirmed that a new Mass Effect game is in development. So far, very little is known about the game. Prior teasers for the next Mass Effect showcased an older version of Liara, suggesting that the game is set long after the events of the original trilogy. However, it is worth remembering that that teaser is from 2020, and EA/BioWare’s plans may have changed since then.

Since this artwork is titled “Civil War” and not “Rebellion”, it is likely that it does not predict the “Krogan Rebellions” of Mass Effect lore. While a Mass Effect prequel is an interesting concept, this would be a Mass Effect universe where Humans are not galactic players. This could be a hard sell for EA, making any prequel Mass Effect games a non-starter for the publisher.

In this year’s N7 Day post, BioWare flat out confirms that their new game “will explore a brand-new story within the universe’s timeline”. Furthermore, it will be “set after the original trilogy”. Could Mass Effect 5 see the Milky Way Galaxy in the midst of a Civil War?

Sadly, EA and BioWare are not ready to unveil their next game. It is likely that the game is still far from launch. Since we are only seeing concept art right now, I wouldn’t bet on seeing trailers or game screenshots anytime soon. If there is a “right time” to showcase a new Mass Effect game, it’s on N7 day. Sadly, that time has passed. Let’s hope that we will see more next year.
