Nightdive Studios “stand ready” to remaster Xbox 360 and PS3-era classics

Nightdive Studios is now interested in remastering classic PS3 and Xbox 360 exclusives, and publishers should let them

As part of an interview with VGC, Nightdive Studios’ CEO, Stephen Kick, claimed that the studio is now interested in remastering games from the Xbox 360/PS3 era.

Nightdive Studios specialises in remastering classic games for PC and modern consoles. Recent releases include The Thing, DOOM + DOOM 2, Star Wars: Dark Forces, System Shock, and more. Nightdive is single-handedly keeping many of these classic games alive by making them available on modern hardware. Note that without them, fans of these games would need to hunt for classic gaming hardware and out-of-print media to play them.

Now, Nightdive has expressed interest in working on newer games from the PS3/Xbox 360 era. Haze, the PlayStation 3 exclusive, was given as an example of a game that they could work on. They also discussed how classic games can be improved when being moved to new hardware. Framerate, refresh rates, texture resolution, loading times, and more were discussed as potential improvements. Furthermore, these games could be further improved with other changes or refinements.

Nightdive studio head Stephen Kick and director of business development Larry Kuperman said they were keen to start looking at potential remasters of games that were only released on Xbox 360 or PS3.

The Xbox 360/PS3 era has many games that would benefit from modern remasters. For PlayStation 3, the Motorstorm series and Killzone series would benefit from a remaster. On the 360 side, there are games like Gears of War 2/3/Judgement, and Ridge Racer 6 would be good remaster candidates. If publishers let them, Nightdive Studios could revive a ton of classic titles. However, reviving certain franchises may prove difficult, as many of the developers behind these games have been shut down. Regardless, it would be great to play some of these 7th-generation console games at higher resolutions and framerates.
