Nvidia releases RTX 50 series hotfix for video freezes and black screens

Nvidia issues new GeForce Hotfix to address a series of Blackwell GPU issues

Nvidia has released a new HotFix driver for GeForce RTX and RTX Spark users. The fix addresses issues related to Unreal Engine 5.8, RTX 50 series GPUs, and RTX Spark systems. With Nvidia’s newest mainstream driver, GeForce 621.01, RTX Spark systems and RTX 50 series GPUs could suffer from freezes and black screens during video playback. Unreal Engine 5.8 can also crash with Hit Lighting in ray tracing mode.

Users of Nvidia RTX 50 series GPUs and RTX Spark systems should update to Nvidia’s new hotfix driver to address these issues. For the most part, this driver fixes issues that affect only Nvidia Blackwell GPUs. Only the Unreal Engine bug impacts other RTX GPUs.

Below are the hotfix release notes for Nvidia’s new GeForce/RTX Spark 621.12 Hotfix Display Driver;
  • Fixed an issue where video playback may freeze or black screen on some GeForce RTX 50 Series GPUs/RTX Spark after updating to GRD 621.01. [6979343]
  • Unreal Engine 5.8 may crash when Ray Lighting Mode is set to Hit Lighting [6914378]
  • [RTX Spark] HDMI monitor connected to StarTech Thunderbolt 3 to HDMI 2.0 adapter may show corruption [6054761]
  • [MSI N16 Flip] Intermittent flickering may be observed [6945359]
