Nvidia’s performance-boosting DLSS tech is coming to Red Dead Redemption 2 on July 13th

Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the most highly famed AAA games of the last console generation, delivering incredible visuals and more than enough content to satisfy most gamers for months. On PC, Rockstar Games took their game to new graphical heights while enabling higher framerate gameplay experiences, making it the best platform to play the game on.

Next week, Rockstar’s “Blood Money” update for RDR2 will give Nvidia RTX users a significant performance boost with the addition of DLSS support. Using the power of their latest Geforce graphics cards, Nvidia has worked with Rockstar Games to deliver high levels of image quality with boosted framerates using the capabilities of the latest AI upscaling techniques. On July 13th, Nvidia RTX graphics cards users will achieve higher framerates in rockstar’s latest hit.

While we look forward to testing Red Dead Redemption 2’s DLSS update for ourselves, Nvidia’s achievements with DLSS speak for themselves. At a minimum, Nvidia RTX users should expect higher framerates when DLSS is enabled and comparable levels of image quality, especially when using DLSS’ highest quality modes. This will be especially true for gamers targeting 4K resolutions.

What this means for Red Dead Redemption 2

With DLSS, PC gamers with RTX graphics cards will be able to achieve high refresh rates and high-resolution gameplay within Red Dead Redemption 2 with greater ease. For high-end GPU users, this will make 120Hz refresh rated at 4K achievable. For users of more moderate RTX graphics cards, 4K 60FPS and high refresh rate 1440p targets will become accessible when using Red Dead Redemption 2’s highest graphical settings.

One of the largest perks of DLSS is that it makes higher graphical quality settings and higher resolution/refresh rate gameplay more accessible to PC gamers, enabling higher quality gaming experiences to those without ultra-high-end graphics cards. Users of high-end RTX graphics cards will also benefit from this performance boost, giving all of those new 4K 120Hz TVs and monitors a reason to exist.

In most of the games that we have tested, Nvidia’s DLSS technology is effectively magic, delivering heightened performance levels with high levels of image quality. In some games, high DLSS settings can provide improved levels of graphical fidelity and higher framerates, though DLSS’ impact on image quality varies on a game-by-game basis.

We hope to test Red Dead Redemption’s DLSS update when it launches next week. PC gamers can read our original PC Performance Review and Optimisation Guide for Red Dead Redemption 2 here.
