Obsidian Entertainment’s Avowed is coming to Battle.net

Obsidian Entertainment’s Avowed is coming to Battle.net on day-1

When Microsoft acquired Activision Blizzard, they became the custodian of the Battle.net PC launcher. This launcher is the exclusive home of World of Warcraft, Hearthstone, and various other PC games. Next year, Battle.net will receive its first game from Xbox Games Studios, Obsidian Entertainment’s Avowed.

Avowed is coming to PC and Xbox on February 18th, 2025. On PC, the game will be available on Steam, the Microsoft Store, and Battle.net. It is a first-person fantasy RPG set in the world of Eora. This is a new IP from Obsidian Entertainment, the studio behind Grounded, Fallout New Vegas, The Outer Worlds, and the Pillars of Eternity series.

Currently, it is unknown why Microsoft is bringing his game to Blizzard’s game launcher. Microsoft may plan to bring more of its PC games to Battle.net, and eventually make it their primary PC game launcher. After all, most PC gamers dislike the Xbox App and the Microsoft Store. As such, a shift to Battle.net may be seen as an improvement, assuming the launcher can be improved to enable support for a larger game library.

When Microsoft purchased Activision Blizzard, many PC gamers hoped that this would help Microsoft deliver a better launcher for their PC games. Doing so would improve their PC game sales outside of Steam. Additionally, it would also give PC Game Pass subscribers a better user experience.
