OnePlus battles Doomscrolling with its Self-Destructing mobile FPS Brain Rot Blaster
Brain Rot Blaster wants its players to take back control of their screentime
Let’s face it, scrolling on our phones is a terrible pastime. There’s a reason why the term “doomscrolling” exists. OnePlus has researched this trend and has decided to put a spotlight on the topic by creating Brain Rot Blaster, a mobile FPS where players battle digital demons based on the worst aspects of the online world. These include “Neg News Readers”, “Blockchain Bro”, “Tin Foil Hat”, “Wellness Guru”, and others.
This new game will launch with the OnePlus Nord 5, OnePlus’ newest smartphone. It’s launching on July 8th, promising users more performance, power, and control.
Brain Rot Blaster is a “self-destructing” FPS. The game “self-destructs after one play”, challenging players to rethink how they use their time online.
OnePlus’ research claims that the “average Brit” is losing over 1.5 hours a day (96 minutes) to the habit. That’s equivalent to one weekend’s worth of time every month. What’s worse is that 22% of those doomscrolling are unable to recall the time they spend doomscrolling.
Our research shows that people are spending more time than they realise doomscrolling – time that could be used to create, connect or simply live more intentionally. We created Brain Rot Blaster to hold a mirror up to the content we consume daily and encourage people to take back control of their screen time. It’s a playful way to spark reflection, but a serious reminder of how much more we could be doing.
