Paragon is Closing down - Epic Games offering full refunds

Paragon was an ambitious title, aiming to act as a showpiece for the Unreal Engine 4 while also bringing the MOBA genre to consoles with a unique 3rd person perspective. Since its release in March 2016, the title never found the mainstream success that Epic desired. Today the game is mostly overlooked, as players flock to Epic's bigger earner Fortnite, which offers a free PUBG-like Battle Royale mode on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

Epic Games are refocusing their efforts on Fortnite, which means that Paragon's time is coming to an end, with the company finding no way to retain enough players to keep their MOBA sustainable as a development project. Epic's Paragon Team has now announced the upcoming closure of Paragon, which is set to go offline on April 26th.

Thankfully, those who have spent money on the game will be offered "full refunds" by Epic Games, allowing them to invest in other titles like Fortnite with V-Bucks or receive a refund directly into your PayPal account.

    Hey Everyone,

It’s with heavy hearts we’ve decided to close down Paragon.

We truly appreciate everything you’ve put into Paragon. We received many passionate ideas for where to take the game; the outpouring of thoughtful suggestions is another testament to this incredible community.

After careful consideration, and many difficult internal debates, we feel there isn’t a clear path for us to grow Paragon into a MOBA that retains enough players to be sustainable.

We didn’t execute well enough to deliver on the promise of Paragon. We have failed you -- despite the team’s incredibly hard work -- and we’re sorry.

To try to make this right, Epic is offering a full refund to every Paragon player for every purchase on any platform. This refund will come directly from Epic rather than your platform provider.

Those who want to apply for a refund can follow the steps below. At this time it is unknown how long it will take for Paragon players to receive refunds.

To request your refund, follow these steps:

- If you’re not playing on PC, link your Epic account (create one if necessary).

- If you play on PC, or have already linked your Epic account, you can request your refund here.

We’ll continue operating Paragon servers until April 26, 2018. As the player population continues to  decrease, matchmaking times and quality will further degrade.

Thank you for joining us on this journey and for your dedication to Paragon.

It's sad to see the end of this project. I imagine those working on it have poured a massive amount of time and energy into it. Hopefully there are ways for creations to live on in other productions.

I don't know anything of the game, but I am touched by the more personal statement and the complete refund offer. That attitude is very respectable and not something you'd expect to see from the giants in the business even though they could afford to do it more easily.

Kudos to Epic Games for their focus on players and their personal response.Quote

Very good of them to refund all. I wonder what would happen if Star Citizen would topple over. Would they do the same?Quote

If Star Citizen topples they won't have the money to do the same. Epic makes tonnes of money from Unreal Engine, nevermind Fortnite. They can afford to do this.Quote

Not to mention that it was never really popular so it wasn't a massive expense all things considered.Quote
