Paramount+ cancelling their Live Action Halo series

The Halo TV series has been cancelled after its second season, but it may continue with a new distributor

This year, Microsoft has benefitted from the huge success of their Fallout TV series of Amazon Prime, though the same cannot be said for their Halo series of Paramount+. The series struggles during its first season, and failed to win back fans with its second. Now, the series has been cancelled, though it may have a future outside of Paramount+.

Below is what Paramount+ had to say about the series’ cancellation. Paramount+ are reportedly now planning to shop the show with other distributors, which means that Halo’s live action adaptation may continue. That said, it remains to be seen if this effort will bear fruit.

We are extremely proud of this ambitious series and would like to thank our partners at Xbox, 343 Industries and Amblin Television, along with showrunner and executive producer David Wiener, his fellow executive producers, the entire cast led by Pablo Schreiber as Master Chief and the amazing crew for all their outstanding work. We wish everyone the best going forward.

The Last of Us and Fallout have proven that live-action videogame adaptations can be hugely successful. That said, Halo proves that they are not guaranteed to be successful. Both The Last of Us and Fallout were well adapted series’ that are largely true to their source material. The same cannot be said for Halo, which has largely alienated the franchise’s fanbase with its changes.

Will the Halo series have a future? We will have to wait and see. Honestly, I think Halo would be better off starting from scratch than continuing as is. A new Halo series sounds more appealing than a 3rd season of a poorly received adaptation.
