Payday 3 is now “fully financed” and is due to launch in 2023

Starbreeze has today confirmed that it has signed a €50 million publishing deal with Koch Media to create Payday 3, a game that is now due to release on PC and consoles in 2023.

This payment will cover Payday 3’s development, marketing and the release of 18 months worth of post-launch “games as a service” content, ensuring that the game’s development will continue until 2025. Starbreeze will maintain ownership of its Payday IP at the conclusion of this deal.

Payday 3 will be developed using Unreal Engine, a factor that should allow Starbreeze to create a title that’s a lot more complex and graphically sophisticated than Payday 2. Payday 2 utilised the proprietary Diesel 2.0 engine, which would require significant reworks to deliver next-generation visuals.

Even today, Payday 2 remains a popular title on Steam. At the time of writing, the game has over 26,000 PC players, highlighting that there is still an appetite for Payday content. Koch Media’s CEO, Klemens Kundratitz, stated that “Payday 3 is shaping up to be an incredible game”, making it worthy of its €50 million investment.
