PC modders take Super Mario 64 to the next level with Path Tracing – Mario + Ray Tracing
Meet Super Mario Ray Tracing (sm64rt), a new open-source version of Mario 64. This version of Mario 64 requires Windows 10 and a graphics card that supports hardware-accelerated ray tracing. This new version of Mario 64 is in Technical Alpha and has some graphical/performance bugs that need to be ironed out by the mod’s developer.Â
This version of Super Mario 64 features a fully path-traced renderer, custom stage lighting throughout the game, dynamic sphere lights, ray-traced shadows, reflections, refractions and ray-traced global illumination. When combined with other PC Mario 64 modes, this could be the best looking version of Mario 64 to date.Â

sm64rt adds full path tracing support to the open-source Super Mario 64 port for PC. A GPU with ray tracing support is required to play this mod.
The mod has now entered a public technical preview phase. You can try it out for yourself, but keep in mind this is in a very early state and you’ll likely encounter plenty of visual and performance problems.
