PlayStation 3 Emulator RPCS3 adds native Steam shortcut/launch functionality

RPCS3 team adds “Create Steam Shortcut” option to its PlayStation 3 emulator

RPCS3 is the world’s top PlayStation 3 emulator, and a new update for the tool has dropped that allows PC gamers to add their PlayStation 3 games to their Steam Library. Using the emulator’s new “Create Steam Shortcut” tool, gamers can add their PlayStation 3 games to their Steam Library, making them launchable through Steam.

With this new functionality, the RPCS3 team is allowing its users to access their games on their terms. While RPCS3 itself has a great UI, many gamers prefer to have all their games in one place: Steam. This is a nice upgrade for users who want fast access to their games, as most PC games have Steam launch when their systems startup.

RPCS3 is continuously improving

Right now, RPCS3 classes 73.26% of all PlayStation 3 games as “playable” through the emulator, with a further 24.92% being “in-game”. Earlier this month, visual improvements were made to classic PS3 games such as Resistance: Fall of Man, Killzone 2, Killzone 3, and more.

Last month, game compatibility shot up thanks to compatibility fixes that made all Singstar games playable using the emulator. This added 39 games to the emulator’s supported list and reduced RPCS3’s “Intro” list from 101 to 62. That’s big progress.

Today, RPCS3 is the best place to play many PlayStation 3 classics. Many PS3 games can now be played at higher framerates and resolutions using the emulator. This allows many classic games to look and feel better when played on PC. However, it is worth noting that you will need a strong PC to enhance these PS3 classics.

With its “Create Steam Shortcut” option, RPCS3’s team has made its emulator a little easier to use. After a game is set up using the emulator, you can add it to your Steam library for easy access. A nice little add-on for an already powerful tool.
