Plex now allows Free SSL Encryption

Plex has just added an important security update which will allow all of it's users to use free SSL Certificates which will allow them to encrypt their content over an HTTPS Connection. Plex say that this is "one of the largest implementations of publicly trusted certificates", giving the public the ability to protect their data in a much more secure way than ever before.

This feature is available to both Plex subscribers and free users, so everyone can benefit from this new feature.

Plex now allows Free SSL Encryption

Right now anyone using Plex server version 0.9.12.3, or any future versions, will be to enable this additional layer of encryption on their server by signing into their Plex Account and go into their settings, server, Network and then ensure the Secure connections is enabled.

Once you enable this option your connection will be encrypted with SSL on specific Plex apps. Right now you can use an encrypted signal on the latest versions of the Plex Android app, Plex Home Theater, Plex Web App, Roku, Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone.

The Plex Apps on games consoles, Smart TVs and iOS are yet to gain these features, but they will be added within the next few weeks.

A secure/encrypted HTTPS signal is the same as what is used to connect you to your bank account, so seeing this level of encryption for your home media streaming is a huge leap for network privacy.
