Primate Labs accidentally unveils Geekbench 7, their newest CPU benchmark
Geekbench 7’s launch is a mess
Primate Labs is getting ready to release Geekbench 7, the next version of their popular CPU benchmarking utility. While the benchmark is not currently listed on the company’s website, detailed documentation is available, and the tool is available to download.
Videocardz were the first to report on the benchmark. Primate Labs reportedly offered information on the new benchmark under embargo, but then failed to deliver their promised materials. The company then placed benchmark installers, documentation, and benchmark results on its public servers. This revealed the tool to anyone looking for it.
Geekbench 7 is calibrated using AMD’s Ryzen 7 7700 CPU, which achieves a baseline score of 2,500 points. CPUs that score higher results are better than this CPU, and lower results are worse.
New Benchmark Tests
Geekbench 7 has added a variety of new CPU tests. This makes Geekbench 6 and Geekbench 7 results incomparable. New tests include Image Editing, Game Physics, Video Encoding, Audio Encoding, and Video Decoding. The game physics test uses the Jolt Physics engine, which is used by Horizon: Forbidden West, and Death Stranding.

With this new version of Geekbench, some older tests have been merged or removed. Object Remover, Horizon Detection and Photo Filter are now part of the new Photo Editor workload. Standalone Object Detection and Background Blur tests have been removed. Several tests have also been updated to support more data formats, modernising these tests.
Now that their new benchmark is public, we expect Primate Labs to make an official announcement soon. If they fail to make an announcement soon, it will be highly embarrassing for the company. After all, enthusiasts are already downloading and running their new version of Geekbench on their systems. The cat isn’t just out of the bag; it’s meowing loudly, demanding dinner, and scratching the sofa.
